Recruitment and Vetting Policy
The SEN Agency, Love Teachers Ltd is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and vulnerable adults. We follow the Department for Education's Keeping Children Safe in Education (KCSIE) guidance. This page summarises how we recruit and vet candidates. Our full Safer Recruitment Policy gives the detail.
Before a candidate is placed
Every candidate goes through the following checks:
- A registration and interview with a trained member of our team.
- Photo ID and proof of identity checked against original documents.
- Right to work in the UK verified.
- An enhanced DBS check, including the barred list where the role is regulated activity with children. We encourage candidates to join the DBS Update Service.
- Overseas police checks or equivalent where the candidate has lived or worked abroad.
- Relevant qualifications verified.
- Teaching status and any prohibition checks for teachers, where required.
- Medical fitness for the role.
- Two references, verified directly with referees where possible.
- A full work history, with any gaps explained.
- Safeguarding training, and confirmation that the candidate has read KCSIE Part 1.
What schools receive
Before a placement starts, we confirm in writing the checks completed for each candidate.
Recruitment of ex-offenders
Roles with children are exempt from the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1974, so we may ask about spent and unspent convictions that are not protected. A criminal record does not automatically stop someone being placed. We look at the nature and relevance of any offence and the role, and we handle information fairly and confidentially.
Our commitments
- No candidate starts work until checks are complete and satisfactory.
- We keep secure records of every check.
- We tell schools promptly of any safeguarding concern about a candidate we have placed, and refer to the DBS and other authorities where the law requires.
